Graphics card questions

Today I upgraded a mate's graphics card for him, and he gave me his old one,
a Radeon 9200SE (according to My Computer). Is this a good card? Anyway,
I've swapped it for my Ge-Force 4 MX, but I have a slight problem; whenever
I reset (or boot up) the PC, the monitor (ordinary 17" CRT model) switches
itself off, as though to protect itself from an invalid setting or whatever,
and I have to manually swith the monitor off and on to get a picture.

How can I cure this? By the way, I've installed the latest ATI driver from
PC Zone's June DVD ROM (the latest issues I have). And which card is better,
the Radeon 9200SE or the Ge-Force 4 MX?

Semi-modern basic video card... you could do far worse, it's
quite adequate for typical PC uses but don't except to do any
decent gaming with it, for example.

The Radeon 9200 is better, but mostly it'd be in obvious ways,
"usually" it'd have a crisper picture but that too can vary per
manufacturer of card. It's not like one card will suddenly allow
you to do (anything in particular) that the other wouldn't.

Did you uninstall the nVidia driver?
Is the system now using the correct monitor INF file or
plug-n-play monitor?

What OS?
Is your Display Properites set to "hide modes this monitor can't
use" or is that deselected and you manually chose a higher rate?

As long as it's better than my old Geforce 4 MX (I benchmarked them, it
is... just).

Yes, but someone suggested using an uninstall program from Nvidea's
WWW site, I'll have to try that (I just used UNINSTAL HARDWARE
from MY COMPUTER HARDWARE DEVICE MANAGER).

PLUG AND PLAY monitor, and both times I get the same
problem (it's a standard 17" CRT model).

I meant uninstalling it from Add/Remove Programs... you should
do that prior to any special uninstaller.

I would place blame on ATI's video driver, their drivers seem
full of nagging little bugs.
