Replacing my scanner
For the last 3 or 4 years i have used an Epson Perfection 1260
scanner. It has always been troublesome and now I think that it has given up completely. What would be a good replacement? Colin |

Replacing my scanner
I share your disappointment with Epson. I have the perfection 1670. The best scanner must be one that suits your own personal needs. I use mine mainly for scanning postage stamps and magazine pages. The Epson had one huge irritation, NO auto colour deskew. I found the seiko software troublesome, if one scanned more than x amount of images, the scanner will jam without prior warning of any limit reached. Personally I would choose a scanner that could scan 35mm film scan articles with "batch scan" options (the Epson had this and I could do 30 stamps or passes with one button click) One must have colour deskew (not just monochrome) good bundled OCR software -- pookiethai at iprimus.com.au wrote in message ... | For the last 3 or 4 years i have used an Epson Perfection 1260 | scanner. Replacing my scanner
I rushed out and bought a Canon LiDE 25. It looks ok. The software
is comprehensive , but a little complex. Of course, before I installed it I gave the Epson one last chance. It immediately burst into life and soldiered on until I had finished the job. It has given me much trouble ever since i bought it. At first I thought the problem was in the USB cable. Then I thought it was different things until I realised that by pulling out the power plug and re-inserting it I could make it re-initialise. That nearly always solved the problem but it was about 18 months old by then so I couldn't return it. I just had to soldier on. Another problem was that I couldn't copy with it. I checked with Epson and eventually they gave me this remarkable work around. I had to install a printer that I didn't have, and when the software tried to print to the printer that I didn't have I had to change the designated printer to the one that I did have. It worked but it was really awkward. Anyway, I've retired the Epson now. Best wishes Colin On Wed, 10 May 2006 20:13:25 +0800, "Rodney" wrote: I share your disappointment with Epson.
