Default Dim 15.7 Screen: Gateway Solo VE 9300 CX

Recently purchased a used Gateway Solo VE 9300 CX with 15.7" screen. I
already owned another 9300 with only a 15" screen.
The 15.7" screen appears significantly dimmer than the 15" screen. "White"
appears muddy with a distinct shift towards red on the 15.7".
The power setting dimmer works on the 15.7. In other words, the screen is
about half bright on battery power. But full bright on AC power is still
much dimmer than my old 15". The Fn screen brightness keys work in as much
as they change brightness. But even at the maximum setting the screen is
dim.
1. I want to make sure this is not normal for 1 15.7 vs. 15. Is a 15.7
supposed to be just as bright as a 15?
2. I am guessing since the power dimming and brightness keys work, this is
not the inverter?
3. I am guessing it is most likely the Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL)?
Could someone out there please verify the above? Is it most likely the CCFL
based on the symptoms? What is the best way to trouble shoot and/or confirm
this?
Suggestions on the best place to get a replacement CCFL are also welcome.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. - Tim Atwood
