Default GA-7VAXP-A RTC slowdown problem

Hiya

Current spec:
GA-7VAXP-A, Athlon 2500 (Barton) clocked to 2GHz, 512MB PC333, Asus
GF3U, Win XP Pro.

Problem:
MOBO is about 5 months old and the RTC seems to keep losing time -
around 1 minute an hour. I've changed the battery, tested the
original as good. I'm reduced to updating the time at least every 24
hours from an NTP server and I'm starting to get annoyed. I only
normally do that once a week. (Update, that is, not get annoyed. I
get annoyed all the time when I'm @ work

I've used the Gigabyte online form twice about this - the second time
also to notify them that they hadn't replied to my first one. From
what I've been reading on this NG, there's next to F all chance of
getting any satisfaction there.

I've not had this problem with any other board/system I've built (lost
count) so I'm kinda stumped. Any suggestions as to whether this is
the MOBO RTC, XP screwing around or anything I may have done in the OC
dept.? Or should I throw this one out the window and go Athlon 64?

The shop I bought the board from (under recommendation) is run by a
100.001% Intel man (who did the recommending) and he wasted no time in
taking the **** out of my hardware - prompting me to only want to
return the board there for the satisfaction of placing said item
somewhere painful.

He also suggested I'd get no joy outta Gigabyte due to their being
bought by Asus - an event I find hard to believe.

If any further info is required, reply to this & I'll add...

AdvaTHANXnce,

Gary
