Upgrade or no?
I have a TI4200, but it's only 4X AGP. Would it make much of a difference
to upgrade to an 8X AGP TI4200? I just can't see the upgrade in getting a 5600 Ultra. Advice anyone? |

Asuming your mother board supports 8x and your processor is not the bottle
neck I doubt you could see a differance. "Mr. Brian Allen" wrote in message ... I have a TI4200, but it's only 4X AGP. Would it make much of a difference to upgrade to an 8X AGP TI4200? I just can't see the upgrade in getting a 5600 Ultra. Advice anyone? |

You won't notice a difference at all. If you want to upgrade and stay
Nvidia, then you'll have to spring for at least a 5700 Ultra. 5900 is your best upgrade at this point. You would definately notice an improvement. Dave "Mr. Brian Allen" wrote in message ... If you are running an AGPx4 motherboard, then am upgrade would be less of
a difference. My board is 8X, but looking at the Unreal Tournament benchmarks, it only raised it about 4 points. I might as well wait for the next batch of cards to come out. |

The 5600 Ultra seems about equal, and the prices jump after that. I'll just wait another 6 months for the next batch to come out. It's funny how the hardware jumps have slown down. Shoot, I used to have to upgrade my video card every 6 months, but I've been using this TI4200 for a year now! I guess overclocking the crap out of it tends to help it stay current! :-) |

The 5600 is slower... the 5600Ultra is on par - but sometimes slower still. Only the 5700Ulta can remain above the Ti4200~Ti4800s. As of today, a $180 fx5900XT would be a decent upgrade. http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...ournament_2003 -- Remember when real men used Real computers!? When 512K of video RAM was a lot! Pro: you got good value (duh! :-) Con: It's that much more difficult to upgrade without losing value. |
