Are you able to try the card and drivers in another system ?

It can be a pain, but a good way of knowing if it is the card/driver

Hi Paul/All

Exactly the same problem as you:
Win XP sp1 and updates
With or without DirectX 9
AMDXP 2600+
2x512 MB Twinmos DDR400 (200MHZ) RAM
60 GB HD
CD ROM
Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev2.0
Gainward GeForce FX5200 with 128MB ddr
JSP TECH 400 Watts from www.jsp-tech.com
- no other drives or cards attached.
- nothing is overclocked
- MB temp on average 28C, CPU 46C

XP rebooted for the first time during setup (installed XP 20 times
before on different system).
After that it reboots and BSOD randomly (and during Windows
update/installation)
Tried all the latest drivers for Graphics card, Nvidia MB chipset, XP
sp1 is installed and updated...

It looks like another driver problem, maybe even more serious than
that, however same Graphics Card (we bought 2 at the same time),works
fine on my brother's similarly specd machine (but with KT400 chipset)
and MSI motherboard.

I firmly believe it isn't the power supply.

ANy other ideas before change to my old Graphics Card and return this
piece of cr.P.
Thanks

Goran

Try taking the Sound Blaster out. Your motherboard has onboard Nvidia APU.

Hi Paul,

Sorry to hear you still have a problem. At least you now have a heavy
duty PSU.

There are a couple of other things you could try.

Remove the Nvidia driver altogether using the following utility to
ensure no remnants of what was there before still lurk somewhere;

http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/

Then install your new driver from scratch.

DaveL may have hit on something when he mentioned your sound card. You
might want to try this in a different PCI slot - preferably the one
furthest from the AGP slot your video card is in. Creative do not
follow the normal PCI standards, so it's just possible that there is
some conflict. You could of course just try removing the soundblaster
and trying the onboard sound just to see if it cures the problem...

Good luck mate - keep posting back.

Martin

Paul
From the beggining this didn't sound like a PSU problem.
One question, how confident are you that your memory (768 MB RAM) is
100% compatible with your motherboard?
Go and download microsoft's free memory tester (Windows Memory
Diagnostic)program from
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Put it on a floppy and boot your PC of the floppy. It will start all
the tests immediately. Click T to run extensive tests. Leave it to run
for a while (2 hours or more) and let it complete at least 4 loops.
If after a while you can still see "No errors found" message at the
bottom half of the screen, your memory is fine, sorry to waste your
time.
If however, you get failures, go to your bios, reduce memory speed and
change to less aggressive settings. Run Windows Memory Diagnostic, and
play with the bios settings until you have no more memory failures.

Load windows XP, check whether you FX5200 still failes.
Please let me know if this helps in any way. It worked for me.

I've done test for memory it's fine, Detonator-destroyer doesn't work
for me and I've uninstalled soundblaster. I've installed latest nForce
drivers for motherboard 3.13 and drivers for graphic card 55.03. I
made test: I was running Nero ,TMPGenc,Winamp,Internet explorer,
Agent, eMule, and Copying files from one folder to another ,and 2
opened windows.I was switching between them with no problemsat all.
Maybe it was soundblaster, idon't know but I've installed drivers
diffrentlly, someone in diffrent group told me that I should not
unistall display driver (after I've installed drivers for motherboard)
before I'm gonna install drivers for graphic card but I did.
And after I've installed motherbord driver I went to Fx 5200
properties and I've noticed driver 52.16 already
installed????????!!Strange.I don't remember that. So I uninstalled
that driver then installed latest one. That is it. I will keep
observetion. If everything's gonna be fine I'm gona install
soundblaster.OVER!!!!!!

+4.999v is perfectly fine. Having a higher voltage than spec is no
advantage, it's when it drops too much under load you have a problem.

Martin
