I guess in some very badly programmed games it migth run
slightly faster as an 9600XT wtih 128Mb memory, but that are VERY BADLY programmed games. Yepp, that's right. One good (or actually bad) example is the game StreetLegal 1 and 2.! As for the XGI V3, i guess even a gf2 ti would be faster than that, LOL. Or even voodoo5!! |

I've always wondered how the Voodoo5 performs on modern Athlon XP or Pentium 4 systems--does it scale well with processor speed? I'd imagine it would beat the crap out of a GF2 MX and maybe even give an MX440 a run for its money, but maybe I'm giving 3dfx too much credit. Got a Voodoo3 3000 in my DOS box... |

You're giving it way to much credit. I replaced a 3dfx with an MX440 and
there was a huge improvement. Yeah, but can the MX440 do cinematic T-buffer special effects? Okay, I guess even if the good old Voodoo5 was "so fast, it's kind of ridiculous" in its day, it certainly isn't very fast anymore. But, given how old it is, I'll bet it doesn't suck as much as newer dual-GPU solutions *cough* XGI *cough* |

Dear john,
I'm sorry if i hurt your feelings, but i didn't meant to. I was saying that even a legacy card such as voodoo5 or gf2 would out perform a latest and expensive graphic crap, oh graphic*card, like XGI V3. Shame to XGI, Long live voodoozz "John Lewis" wrote in message ... Ok you old voodoo fans, listen up. I had been using 3dfx cards since voodoo
banshee. than v2, v2-sli, v3 2000 pci and last voodoo3 3000 agp. (could not buy v5 in time, still feel bad though). My prehistoric system , celeron566, 256mb pc100, v3 3k agp, with 8Gb hdd, was way way fast than my friends P3-450, riva tnt 2, 256mb ram. He could not enjoy some popular games like i did. Those include, Quake3, UT, NFS-5 (the last real NFS), HL, MechWarrior3 and many other. Last year I ran voodoo5 5500 agp on my 850Duron, 512pc133, under xp. It took some time to find good drivers, but when i did, it ran rather well. I got more fps and quality in games (compared to std gf2 32mb) like dues-ex, red-alert 2 , ProjectEDEN, DeltaForce3 and even in UT! i guess voodoo were pretty solid for it's time, and even useable today (though mostly for legacy games). Dear john, I'm sorry if i hurt your feelings, Thanks, but not my feelings. It was my poor faithful V5 5500's feelings that I was referring to. My other machine has a Fx5900 in it, so I have the (near) best of both worlds. John Lewis Please don't insult the Voodoo5. You hurt the feelings of mine......
