Are there 2 FSB Concepts?
Hello. I have shuttle ak32 mainboard.
In the specification there is written: 1)Support Socket462 package CPU with 200/266 MHz FSB 2)Self configuration FSB (The FSB speed is software configurable from 100MHz to 166MHz by 1 MHz step in the Frequency/Voltage Control of BIOS setup program.) - So one FSB is 200 or 266 and second is 100-166. Do I think well that this Socket 462 FSB can not be changed and the 100-166 MHz FSB is for overclocking?? (Why 2 FSBs?) And if the second FSB is for overclocking then how should I know the nominal value if I only know that FSB of my processor is 266 MHz? How do you call this nominal value if 266MHz for my processor is called FSB? Please, help!! (I can't understand this 2 FSB concepts) Greetings |

(I can't understand this 2 FSB concepts) Greetings You have a main clock, which drives everything. e.g. say your main clock is 133MHz. your fsb is double pumped so it runs at 266MHz your ram IF running 1:1 will run at an actual 133MHz, or 266MHz effective - this is also based against the main clock your cpu - say you have an athlon xp 1500+ has a x10 multiplier - 133MHz * 10 = 1.33GHz pentium 4's and core 2's use quad pumped fsb. athlon 64's hyper transport paths run with a configurable multiplier against the main clock. For 754 and a few low end 939 mobos, it was 800MHz, i.e. 1600 Mega TRANSFERS (2 way, so it's reported as double, but that's marketing!). main clock on these chips is 200MHz, so the HT multiplier was x4. For most 939 and am2 it's 2000MT (mega transfers) or 1000MHz HT bus, which is 200MHz on a x5 multiplier. |
