Default S/PDIF What is It?

I've been converting LPs to .cda using a Technichs SL-1200M3D turntable.
It has RCA outs that I connect to a pre-amp/mixer, which is connected to
the line in of my sound card. It's been working fine.

I was browsing around and saw a Stanton turntable:

which has S/PDIF output (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format). The
descrition also says this is convenient for archiving vinyl. What is
this? Does this mean that I'd plug the S/PDIF out(s) directly to my
soundcard, without going through my pre-amp/mixer?

If you're familiar with this turntable, are there also RCA outs on it?
And, does it have a lever arm to pick up and place the tone arm? I find
this feature very helpful on the Technics I'm currently using.

Thanks,
Bruce

S/PDIF is digital so your analog input on your sound card won't work
connected that way. But some computers have a provision for S/PDIF out
and in. If you have that feature, you are in luck.

The spec for the turntable says it has phono / line out provision. If
it is true line out, then you should be able to connect that direct to
the analog sound card input.

Looks like a nice table though and that is key to making noise free
copies of your old 33's.
