Ordering from Gateway in the US for the UK

Hi,

just thought I would mention (because it took me a while to find this out)
that you can order parts from the US for delivery to the UK.

I am interested in this because (subject to having the chassis of my Solo
9300 checked) I need a new main battery.

US costs are :

"The Solo 9300 battery is available for US$125.00, part number 6500358. The
UPS shipping & handling is US$40.00. You are responsible for all import
duties or taxes."

I still need to price import duties and taxes, but with £UKP at about 1.9 to
the $USD this looks as though it may be quite a bit cheaper than some of the
UK prices.

cheaper suppliers!

At (£139 + vat) £163.33 and shipping (£2.50) the £165.83 UKP translates to
$306.79 USD (assuming 1.85:1 exchange rate).
So you have $141.79 USD available for import duty and tax.
Presumably these are based on the $125 USD purchase price.

VAT on $125 is $21.88
20% import duty is $25 (I think import duty is around 20%)
So you could save (subject to checking) almost $100 by arranging for Gateway
to ship from the US.

I need to confirm additional costs with UPS, but it certainly looks
tempting.

You need to work your way throught the Gateway website in the US to find the
contact for International Sales (not posting an email address here because I
don't want them spammed :-) ).
