Default Compaq LTE 5250

I have a 5250 that still works great and woudl like to format the hard
drive and install Windows 98 but I have a problem.

I need the Start Floopy Disk to do the formate and then the CD ROM to
install but the units can not be in at the same time and the unit is
not Hot Swapable.

Can anyone tell me how to go about getting a new copy of Win 98 on the
machine?

Jeff

Win98SE CR-ROM is bootable. I can not find my WIN98 original, and so
cannot check.

If your computer can boot from a CD, you only need to insert the Win 98 CD in
the drive and make sure that the BIOS is set up to boot from the CD-ROM drive
first.

Otherwise, go to www.bootdisk.com , download the Windows 98SE boot disk image,
and prepare a boot diskette. Boot the system from the floppy, partition and
format the drive (format c: /S) to be bootable, then copy the entire contents of
the floppy to the C: drive. Reboot the system, and the combo of CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT will load drivers for the CD-ROM drive and assign a drive letter to
the drive. Switch to the CD-ROM drive letter by keying in the drive letter, a
colon, then hitting the Enter key. (e.g. R: ) Then, enter the command SETUP
, and you are on your way... Ben Myers

That is how i did on a Armada 4100:
-Boot on a W98 boot diskette, partition and format the HD under DOS,
install a DOS file transfer program like fx20

-copy the W98 directory from the CD from a desktop PC by serial or
parallel cable

- Install W98 from the hard disk!

Worked fine for me.
