Default Wave Files on Music CD Don't Work on All Players

I copied one track from several CDs to make a single sampler CD. Copied as
*.wav files using Real Player, then copied the compilation from the hard drive
to a CD-R, using the burn routine in Windows XP. It plays on some of our
players, but not all. Plays fine on the computer CD, a Panasonic Personal, a
Technics changer, and car stereo. On a Sony Personal it plays but each track
has to be advanced manually. And on two single play Technics it won't play at
all. Would like to know if there is a way I can get this work on all CD
players, as I am creating this for 20 students and would like it to work for
all of them.

Not quite sure whether the problem is with the media or in the way
the audio CD was mastered. But take note that the same media may not
work with all CD players or drives. And even the best of CD players
and drives will not playback improperly mastered discs. FWIW, I'd
have used tested media and a full-fledge audio burning software
such as Roxio ECDC or Nero, for example, with SCSI CD-R(W) drives
for projects like this.

There is no way you can guarantee this. Some players are simply poor at
playing copies. Careful attention to matching media, player and writing
speeds will ensure you produce the best possible burn.

I have Nero and went through the audio CD compilation wizard to see what it's
like. I take it you have found this to be more reliable than the Windows XP
routine that is integrated into Windows Explorer (folders and files). What burn
speed do you recommend for a CDR? My CDRW is 16x10x40. And, do you make your
copies from CD to hard drive of music files in *.wav (which is what I did)?
Thanks.

This is the result of not one format taking precedent. ..aka..vhs...versus
Beta...remember?

No, it is because the red book standard developed by Philips/Sony for the
audio CD predated the medium now used for producing copies. The fact that
the copies work at all lies in a sloppiness of applying those standards. The
burned signal on a copy is much harder to read than an original CD. That it
works at all is our good fortune.

If this helps, currently using Roxio ECDC 6. Burning with a
SCSI Plextor CD-RW and using burnproof. Readout indicates at
around 20X for CD-R (40X max.).

As a general rule the "built in" burning done by Windows XP is NOT a reliable
way to burn audio discs.

Every computer I own (10 counting the laptops) is running XP pro and every
computer pukes differently if I try to burn disks with XP.( all are running
the latest updates provided from "Windows Update")

MUCH better off disabling the built in burning and getting Nero or ECDC and
burn good disks.
