Default Modem and other on same serial, alternately?

I am planning to purchase an external USR.
Also, I just acquired a cable to connect my Nokia to my PC.
Can I use the serial port for the modem primarily, and sometimes switch
cables to the Nokia serial cable for a few minutes?
TIA,
Rick

I don't see why not. I have a switch box and switch to several serial
devices. YOu do need to make sure that you are not running a subroutine
program that looks for the camera or other device on the port. Just call up
the program as needed for the device you hook to the serial port.

Ralph, thanks for your response.
Your answer sounds good, so I'll get the external.

Plug and Play may not see modem on powerup and not configure
for modem. Cheap and easy solution is another serial port.
