Gateway Motherboard Proprietary Issues
Just enough knowledge here to be dangerous. Have a friend with a Gateway Bro
Essential 933C. Had their motherboard replaced several months ago and it has failed again. Previously the purchased an exact replacement mb. Orginally system has an Jabil motherboard (Intel I believe) Gateway part# 2512847. According to specifications at Gateway website this mb has a micro-ATX form factor. My question is - Are the any proprietary issues with gateway machines that would prevent just using another brand (read more economical) of motherboard assuming of course the form factor matches. Thank you in advance for any assistance. |

Assuming you are using the original Windows CD that came with the
computer, you will not be able to reinstall with a non Gateway motherboard. Otherwise you should be OK. -- Jupiter Jones Check the following link for some great problem solving newsgroups. http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx http://dts-l.org/index.html "Empowerment Group" wrote in message ink.net... The front panel connector won't fit an aftermarket board, and the I/O shield
at the back is likely nonstandard. Those usually come with new boards, but you'll have to rewire the front panel. Since it is possible (perhaps highly so) that the power supply is faulty, it might be a good idea to just get a new case and power supply to go with a new board - it will save you rewiring, and possibly from another mainboard failure.
