A7N8X and Vista wakeup
I'm using an A7N8X mobo (1.04) with Vista.
Despite many initial problems (most of which have been fixed by software updates and a few hardware changes) it works very well. The big problem is that after entering sleep/hibernate/ mode it isn't possible to wake the monitor up - the mobo does seem to wake (judging by the power and hd lights and the hd sounds) but there's no way of waking the monitor (a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 750sb). Turning the monitor off and on doesn't help and neither does unplugging the video cable from the monitor (although I have only tried unplugging the monitor end and not the PC end). The monitor does not detect the h or v signal from the graphics card (a Radeon 9500). Nothing I do can change the situation. Does this sound like a mobo problem with Vista. Is it worth risking a floppy drive flash upgrade for the mobo from the factory provided firmware for version 1.04? Should I just bite the bullet, having spent money on Vista, and buy a new PC? If so what happens to the version of Vista I bought (I was ripped off by an eBay seller who pretended to sell a "full" version of Vista bit actually sold me an oem version which is therefore tied to the A7N8X)? Thanks for any help. Gareth. |

Thanks for any help. Gareth. First off, you should be looking in a forum like this. Plenty of people here will be using Nforce2 boards, and fighting with Vista. "Nvidia will not support Vista Drivers for Nforce 2 Motherboard" http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/nvid...a-vt68359.html http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/fri-...-vp603563.html As far as your choice of OS, for an older board, where the writing is on the wall with regard to support, I think I'd try WinXP before I'd go with Vista. And I don't think I'd completely change my hardware, just so I could use an OS. It is supposed to work the other way around - the OS is there to support the hardware. Buying an OS on Ebay ? Better to blow the money at a casino. Is the Radeon 9500 supported in Vista ? Do you have an actual Catalyst that uses acceleration features of the card ? Maybe a different video card might be the answer. Or a different OS, depending on which is cheaper :-) Do you know whether the "dumppo.exe" program works with Vista ? Perhaps it will identify a driver that is not supporting S3. Paul |
