Using two monitors.....

Hey everyone. I need some help.

I'm wanting to use a second monitor but I'm having some problems getting it
set up.

I have used my TV in the past for watching films through my pc before, so I
know my graphics card supports this feature. I simply use a lead to connect
the TV to the back of my tower.

Now what I'm wondering is, to use a second monitor, do I hook it up the
same, or do I have to hook it up using the parallel port lead?

Well I tried just using the lead as my computer only seems to have the one
parallel port, and my computer recognises the second monitor as I'm able to
"extend my windows desktop onto this computer", but I'm not getting anything
on the second monitor. All I'm seeing is a coloured screen which keeps
turning different colours which is how it was when I turned the monitor on.

The monitor is a Packard Bell 5480, which I'm sure is compatible with XP as
my brother used it on his XP computer.

What am I missing? What do I need to do?

Would really appreciate any help. Thanks!

What you really need is a display card that can support 2 VGA monitors, if
it is a second VGA monitor that you want to run.

A parallel port is for the printer, not for the monitor!

How do I know if my display card supports 2 VGA monitors? And if it does,
how do I connect the second monitor?

Sounds like your graphics card only has a TV out and hasn't got dual monitor
support. Even if you could connect your second monitor to the TV out, all
you would get is a clone of your first monitor. You need a new graphics
card with dual monitor support.

ss.

If its a dual display card it will have two connectors.
If it has you use the software supplied with your card.
Perhaps you might want to tell us what make the card is, or select
display/properties and tell us what the device is

monitor support. Even if you could connect your second monitor to the TV
out, all you would get is a clone of your first monitor. You need a new
graphics card with dual monitor support.
