Default What is a Geforce 5600XT?

I am looking at buying a Geforce 5600 and have come across a board called a
Leadtek Geforce FX A310 XT which is says uses the Geforce FX 5600XT
chipset - yet neither the nvidia website nor the Leadtek website mentions
anything about this chip? Here is a link to the product I am looking at:

http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=118902

This is a NZ website so the price you see in in NZ dollars. There are around
60 US cents to the NZ dollar so this board is quite cheap, in fact quite a
bit cheaper than non 'XT' 5600 boards.

Anyone able to help me out here?

Thanks!

Steve

It exists (http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_9438.html) but WTF it is I
don't know. You may be interested in
http://www.leadtek.com/graphic.html to see that the card advertised is
not in their current lineup, which suggests end of line stock, hence
the atrractive price.

From what I can tell, they are 5600s with lower core and memory clock. I'm
guessing they are just selling off the ones which didn't quite make the cut
the first time round.

I checked at the only Leadtek A310's are Non Ultra's or Ultra's. So
i'm sure these guys try to sell you a non-ultra card. And since ATI
uses XT as a positive sign they hope they can use to sell card, even
though XT has no meaning regarding this card.

They just wish to trick you into thinking you are buying a FX 5600
Ultra while it's just a Non Ultra!

Wel Wel Wel, it seemingly is an existing card, but probably Leadtek
doesn't shows the card because it's rather.. ahum.. ashamed of it.

Is the message I got

NVIDIA does make XT Chips http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_9438.html

Leadtek does name its chips that way

It's kind of a confusing thing

David

So they agree with their possible customers that it's rather a wasp

Not as bad as GeForce 4 MX, but that is, once again, questionable
marketing kicks from Nvidia camp. I wouldn't be surprised to hear
from angry customers complaining inadequate performance against the
neighbors' GeForce 5600 and 5700 Ultras.

scribbled:

JESUS!!! What is with NVIDIA? They want to drive away THEIR OWN
CUSTOMERS?! Make more confusing products? What will the GF 6 series
will be like? "Nvidia SFX 6200 Ultra XT" ???

5200 - 64bit
5200 - 128bit
5200 - 128bit 256mb
5200 - ultra
5600
5600 xt
5600 Ultra (orginal)
5600 Ultra (current / FC)
5700
5700 Ultra
5800
5800 Ultra
5900
5900 se
5900 ultra
5950
5950 Ultra

Almost as bad as ATI!

9000
9000 Pro
9000 AIW
9100
9200SE
9200
9200SE AIW
9200 AIW
9500
9500 Pro
9600SE
9600
9600 Pro
9600XT
9600 AIW
9700
9700 Pro
9700 Pro 256MB
9800SE
9800
9800 Pro
9800 Pro 256MB
9800XT

Ouch! And that's just the 9XXX series...
To be fair, this is more or less Sapphire's list of cards, not ATI's,
but ATI definitely makes all of these and possibly more.

Arrrrrrrrrgh?!

Imagine the 6 line, just the low end:

Nvidia SFX 6200
Nvidia SFX 6200 se
Nvidia SFX 6200 XT
Nvidia SFX 6200 Ultra XT
Nvidia SFX 6200 Ultra
Nvidia SFX 6200 Ultra mx
Nvidia SFX 6200 Ultra se
Nvidia SFX 6200 Ultra PCI-EX

And of course, everyone's soon to be favorite:
Gainward Nvidia SFX 6200 Ultra XT Pro Power Pack Plus GTS

(which is really a Nvidia SFX 6200 XT)

And at the rate Nvidia going, ALL of these would be SLOWER than the
5600 and some 5200 cards.

If you ask me, both companies are diluting their product lines to such
a degree that most consumers simply don't know what to get any more,
so they pick something randomly from the middle. I never thought I'd
say this, but I miss the days of having few products to choose from.
VooDoo 2 8MB or VooDoo 2 12MB. VooDoo3 2000, or VooDoo3 3000... TNT2
or TNT Ultra...
