400 memory on a P4B533
Will this board actually use this faster memory or do I need to go to 333.

According to asus the P4B533 only supports pc1600 or pc2100 ram.

You can use at least some brands of DDR400 (ie. PC3200). I am using one stick of Corsair XMS 3200 CAS 2 in a P4B533-E. You can overclock to higher FSB's if you use just ONE stick of memory, so get all your RAM as one stick. Set dipswitch 6 to ON (on the motherboard) and choose 1:1 RAM ratio in the bios. This combination actually gives you 4:3 ram ratio (an undocumented but well known feature of this motherboard). (ie. with your FSB at 133 your RAM will be at 354mhz, and if you set your FSB to 150mhz your RAM will be at 400mhz). Remember to lock your AGP/PCI buses at 66/33 in the bios too. I am running P4 1.8Ghz at 150 FSB (cpu at 2.7Ghz, RAM at 400mhz). "Jbarber" wrote in message able.rogers.com... Will this board actually use this faster memory or do I need to go to 333. |

Please don't use the term MHz when you mean data-rate. It is confusing for people who don't know better. (Hint: The prefix 'DDR' means Dual-Data Rate and is not a measure in MHz.) -- ~misfit~ "Jbarber" wrote in message able.rogers.com... Maybe I should clarify. I added a 2.67 P4 which easily runs at 3 gig at
stock voltage. I borrowed a stick of 333 to test this since my own is 266. I would like to overclock this chip and since I need to buy faster ram I thought that I should buy 400. I have no ability to test this beforehand so hense the question. I have heard that there is a lot of trouble using 400 ram on this board so I thought I would ask before ordering the ram.
