They were unlocked but now people are saying they are superlocked-
cant even unlock them by messing around with the CPU.

Umm, the nForce2 chipset doesn't give a $hit what multiplier the CPU is set
at, you can change it regardless (at least last I checked...anyone
confirm?).

Right when Im thinking about buying a video card and CPU seems like
ATI is intent on replacing all their lower cards one by one with half
pipe versions

So don't but lower end...get a 9700Pro.

I was thinking of getting one since they seem to be the best deal now
- $85 OEM version and everyones overclocking them to 3200.

Not that theres anything really bad about that and you can OC the FSB
still but is one the other AMDs a better deal now? Can you still find
unlocked ones guaranteed someplace?

ATI is intent on replacing all their lower cards one by one with half
pipe versions and AMD is now locking the CPUs.

That's true with older CPU, but reports have been coming in on various
website forums over the weekend, that *new* Bartons are really locked,
as-in, locked. This info is just coming in, likely one of the larger
websites will have prompted AMD to make some statement early this
week.... it could all be a hoax or user-ineptitude.
