Inspiron 2100 problems
I'm having a problem with an old I2100 and don't have a clue how to proceed.
I suspect it is a paperweight, but I have a use for it if it can be fixed. Honestly, it's been so long since I killed it, I don't even remember the details. As I recall, the fan was loud and the screen had intermittent problems. I suspected a bad cable, as the hinges are shot. All I did was open it up and put it back together. Now it won't power up. Press the button and nothing. I've checked every connection I can find. Anything obvious? Tom |

probably wasting time stating more of the obvious... without a beep code or
flashing led code there isn't much you can do other than replace parts. what else did you try? pull the cd/floppy, hard drive, and external devices (mouse, usb, whatever), reseat memory and reseat the processor and then try again... if that doesn't give you any beep code or flashing led code then next i would try the power inverter, then the motherboard. If none, then replace the CMOS battery. Q |

I think if it's stripped down to the board and CPU and won't generate beep codes then he's likely got a bad system board. Stew |

one other thing you may have already tried... get a charged battery from
another computer and try it in this one. if a charged batter powers it up then it is likely that the ac power connector on the system board is what has failed. there are some shops that will repair that for about $100, but a whole motherboard may be a cheaper purchase from ebay if spending money on this is worth it to you. The machine is worth less than the value of a battery
It's a very obscure battery Nice little ultralight though.
