Default External HDD not recognised

Hi,

I have an old "Computer Connections Shuttle" drive. They don't make them
any longer as far as I know. It's a box in which you install a regular 3.5
inch HDD, which is then connected to the PC through a parallel port or
pcmcia connection. I used it regularly with the pcmcia connection for many
years with a laptop running Win95. However, the laptop is now running
Win2000 Professional and it cannot recognise the hard drive. It sees the
pcmcia ide/atapi controller and the disc spins up without a problem when the
PC boots, but it can't see the disc for some reason.

The disc itself is fine. I have taken it out and used it in a desktop
without problems. I've also tried the shuttle in two laptops and get the
same result. It sees the controller, but not the drive. I think that some
months ago I did try it on one of these laptops and i'm fairly sure it
worked under Win2000, but I can't be 100% certain. It certainly won't work
now though !

Any ideas anyone ? What should I try next ? Alternatively, can anyone
recommend a new device in which I can place a regular 3.5" HDD and hook it
to the PC using a pcmcia card ?

Thanks in anticipation for your help....
Cheers,
John.

Put it in an external usb enclosure; interface it with a USB 2.0 pcmcia
card.
