Hmm...this is indeed strange. The nvidia website says "Release Date:
February 7, 2006" but version 81.98 was actually released on 21.12.2006.

February 7, 2006" but version 81.98 was actually released on 21.12.2005.

Yes, nVidia often makes a silent updates (no version number changing, just
release date is modified/updated).
These silent updated drivers are in most cases just adding support for newly
released models like 7800GS etc. / so there are no changes in the driver
operation/no new features and so on ;]

I read that they took out the "direct access" that was making problems with
monitors.
