Default Epson - Print Server - Slow - Epson Status Monitor

This is just a FYI - So others may have a quicker resolution to this
issue when it happens.

I receintly put a DLink Wireless Print Server onto my Epson 2200. It
works fine but it takes forever from the time I hit print until the
print preview comes up, or the document starts printing if I am not
using the print preview.

The cause turns out to be that the print server, even though it says it
is bi-directional, is not with respect to the extended protocol used by
Epsons Status Monitor. The Status Monitor checks ink levels etc. Thus
when an application starts to print the status monitor gets involved
and since it cannot communicate with the printer it waits paitently
hoping it eventually can I guess. After about a minute or two, it gives
up and the data is finally sent to the printer where printing occurs at
normal speed.

The solution is to - for me that is - remove the driver completely,
then install just the print driver and not the 'Epson Status Monitor'.
Epsons web site says to install the status monitor after installing the
driver, but I would advise against this if you are having slow print
issues.

BTW - For the DLink - in the TCP port config for the printer - Set it
for LPT - Not Raw - and enable byte counting.

Prints quick and properly now.

Hope that helps someone.
