HP MFC printer no yellow fixed!!!

Hi Group,

I have an HP G85 printer which suddenly stopped printing
yellow from a relatively new cartridge. There was no error
message on the printer.

I ran the cartridge under warm water and gently wiped the
print heads. I cleaned the contacts and the nubs inside the
printer with isopropyl alcohol, but still no luck.

I then tried a brand new cartridge, which didn't work, so I
began to suspect the printer.

I then read in this newsgroup about the damp tissue idea,
and noticed that blue and red left a stain from both the new
and slightly used cartridges, but no yellow from either.
Good news is that I don't have to junk my printer.

Since stores are closed now, and I really need to print my
document, I got the idea to blow *hard* into the vent hole
above the yellow chamber. A small amount of yellow ink
appeared at the print head. I put that end of the cartridge
under warm water again, and repeated the process. Voila, I
can now print yellow.

BTW, these are HP OEM cartridges. They have never been
refilled. I thought by avoiding refills, you avoid problems
like this :-). The new one was dated 20040113, so it should
have worked. Anyhow, I hope this tip helps someone else who
is having this problem.
