Default Epson XP-835 question

I have bought the Epson XP-835 so-called 'Small All In One'. Got it
working pretty well okay, but I can't seem to do one thing. I am in
hope that someone out there has this printer and knows how to do what
I want to do, or tell me I can't.

Anyway, the control panel on the printer has a selection 'scan' which
I presume will allow me to scan by using the printer's control panel.
Its 'scan' button has a selection of what to scan to - one choice is
'to computer' - which I chose. It next asks 'how'. I have a USB
connector from printer to computer even tho the printer is installed
and works wireless, so I chose 'USB' which is the only choice anyhow.
The printer panel just hangs right there.

Anyone?

Thanks

JW

Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v3.7.7.1 12.7MB

"Note:

To scan using the product's control panel, you must also download and
install the Event Manager Utility after installing this file.
"

Event Manager Utility v3.10.61 17.21 MB

*******

Perhaps all you've installed so far is
printing drivers ?

The thing is, the printer cannot "shove" a file
down the USB cable. There must be a protocol defined to
carry out the procedure, and that usually requires drivers
of some sort. If the AIO appeared as a Capture Device or
Camera, then you would "pull" the image from the computer
end. With the scanner seemingly "pushing" the image, it means
a polling software must exist on the computer end, asking
"got a picture for me? got a picture for me" as part of
the protocol. Perhaps the Event Manager is for creating a
notation on the computer screen, so you will be alerted a
picture is present.

Since scanning with Wireless is also supported, there could
easily be issues with that if "something wireless" is missing
from the drivers. The manual says using the arrow keys, if
Wireless is set up, the control panel can also be used to
scan over Wireless.

Don't know anything about that printer but I know that if something is
going to be sending anything to the computer than the computer must be
willing to receive it and know what to do with it (like saving). Are you
sure that you've installed all of the software required? Some sort of
driver or service or constantly-running receive utility that you missed?

That most probably is the case, but I have been playing with this
scenario for two days now, with same result. The printer is doing
nicely otherwise. I can scan from the PC (W7) wireless, saving the
results. I can FAX independently from the printer panel just fine. I
can print in all ways from the PC (W7) wireless. Basically I can do
what I need to do wireless. But I see on the printer control panel
selections to (1) scan to a memory card, (2) scan to the cloud, (3)
scan to computer. So, I thought to test the third. It tells me to
'select the computer USB connection'. It will not do it - even though
I have a USB cable connecting the PC to the printer.

I have repeated the printer setup, using the provided CD disk, to no
avail. Hence my question.

I might just should forget it as a bad idea, huh?

When the software CD installed, did it leave a nice list of
separate packages in Control Panels : Programs and Features ?

Perhaps you can tell from what was installed, whether any optional
bits and pieces of software are missing.

I appears that I have to set up something called WSD in order to 'scan
to computer'. I plan to table trying to do that for a bit while I
catch up on other.

Thanks
