Any one have a clue..?

Try looser memory timings and/or a bios update.

My situation was different, but might provide a clue. On an Abit IC7 with
2x256-meg Buffalo Tech PC3700, I could run 220 mhz at 2,3,2,6 with Pat
enabled. Sandra buffered memory scores were 5800+.

When I added two more sticks of the same memory, PAT was disabled and Sandra
scores fell to 5000+. The only way I could get PAT back was to set the NB
strap down from 800 to 667, but then I could not get above 210 fsb and
memory scores went down instead of up.

After a couple of weeks of tearing my hair out trying unsuccessfully to find
the magic bios settings that would maximize performance with a gig of ram,
Abit released a bios update, v. 19, that adjusted some memory timings for
compatibility with different brands.

Lo and behold, I suddenly got better scores with four sticks than two, 5850+
in Sandra, even though PAT was still listed as disabled.
