Default ATI Font / Text Size

I recently wiped clean my laptop (which has an ATI Mobility Radeon
X600 chip) and reinstalled Windows and the original drivers. Problem
is now many of the fonts on the screen are too large for the dialog
boxes that they sit in. This occurs across Windows and its programs.

All font sizes are set as normal in the Display applet, the DPI is
right, resolution normal etc. I tried updating to a newer ATI driver
but the problem persists. I can't figure out what's causing the over-
sized fonts.

It's been difficult to search for a solution as the terms are used so
widely in other contexts.

Any suggestions?
