a goog mobo for Duron 1.4ghz o/c
hi!
i am looking for a good mobo for my new duron 1400 mhz (green laminate). what do you think about gigabyte ga-7n400e ? is it a good mobo? do i overclock this duron 1.4 to wonderful 2100 mhz ? im asking because it doesnt have a core voltage... will it be a problem to overclock? and the next question is about a link. i would like to unlock an l2 cache in it i dont know anything about it and i need a good instruction regards Andre |

I have the GA-7N400Pro2 and it is an excellent board. Only just decided to
clock it and have XP2200+ running at 2.05GHz with standard DDR266 RAM, cooler and no changes to any voltages. I intend to improve the cooling and replace RAM with DDR400 and try for some more soon. I would recommend you pay a little extra and get the Pro or Pro2 board for all the extra's. It is fantastic value for money and available for around £88 in UK. I have seen claims of o/c'ing new Duron 1.4 to 2.2GHz on FSB200 x 11 with DDR400 RAM etc. Mick "Andre" wrote in message ... hi! i am looking for a good mobo for my new duron 1400 mhz (green laminate). what do you think about gigabyte ga-7n400e ? is it a good mobo? do i overclock this duron 1.4 to wonderful 2100 mhz ? im asking because it doesnt have a core voltage... will it be a problem to overclock? and the next question is about a link. i would like to unlock an l2 cache in it i dont know anything about it and i need a good instruction regards Andre |

You'll need to raise the core voltage I'd say. and the next question is about a link. i would like to unlock an l2 cache in it i dont know anything about it and i need a good instruction http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/dis...908004407.html -- ~misfit~ |

It seems there are cpuid 680 & 681 Applebred Durons that have been seen at
1.4Ghz - that is t'bred 'A' core and 'B' core respectively - if you have a cpuid of 680 it probably will not do 2.2 - maybe 1.9ghz - if it is cpuid 681 it will probably do 2.2ghz. vcore can be increased using the wire pin mod http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/ht...md_pinmod.html or via the bridges on the cpu if you have no bios options. MSI do a cheap nforce2 board for about £50 - not sure of the specs. Did not mean to worry you - the majority have apparently been cpuid 681 -
but there are also 680 ones about - so it is not true to say they will all overclock very well - as not all will. A small free program that will reveal the number is wcpuid from www.h-oda.com - if you select "system info" from "view" menu at the bottom of the window is a number - such as "0680" (A core) or "0681" (B core) Another good free program is ada32 - where under "motherboard" - "CPUID" it gives the number - such as "0680h" or "0681h" It is rumoured the applebreds are failed thoroughbreds because of only partially working L2 cache - so rather than throw them away they invented applebreds and turned off the part of the L2 cache that failed the factory tests. I can not say 100% if the Duron is the same as the thoroughbred but they certainly look the same, have the same cpuid numbers (which presumably identifies the core), and have the same bridge layouts as the thoroughbred (apart from the L2 - which does the cache) - also this is supposed to be why the cache can sometimes be reactivated - because it is a thoroughbred with the some cache turned off. So it would appear that the wire-pin mod should work - but I do not know 100% for sure. I have also heard them referred to as C cores - but I can not say. But the 1.4 Durons with cpuid 681 overclock much better than those with cpuid of 680. "Andre" wrote in message ... I do not know what the steppings are for the applebreds. Even if the steppings are known unless the seller makes them known you can not tell. I have not researched it much but could not find much data other than these three - but what they mean I do not know - but it suggests that they may be 681s by the B on the end. MIUHB MIXHB MIXIB |
