Question about mobo for Duron 1600 overclocking.
Hi there,
I have been googling around quite a bit for a Mobo that has the following requirements: 1.Has VCore adjustments. 2.Has FSB adjustments. 3.Is cheap and basic but fairly stable. I don't even need multiplier change, because I want to do something quite simple with a Duron 1600. I have seen a Mobo , the Gigabyte GA 7S748L . However, the Voltage adjustment, according to a review I saw, is limited to +0,1 VOlts from the default. Is there a way to change the processor's bridges so that it will have a bit more default Vcore? Is it true that the Mobo I saw has really those voltage setting limitations? Thanks for your attention, Miguel |

If you want cheap, $39 can get you an ASRock K7S8X-R3 board. Make sure it's an R3. Uses the SIS 746fx chipset. FSB adjustments up to 255MHz by increments of 1. Of course it won't run that high, but I got mine to 215MHz FSB using PC3700 ram. Voltage adjustment has a setting for 5% increase. Higher than that can easily be done via a wire in the socket. I raised mine from the default 1.6v to 1.8v with 1 piece of wire. Or you could change the bridges on the cpu. it has total multiplier control of all 5 multiplier bits (requires unlocked CPU). The K7S8XE-R3 is the same except it uses the sis 748 chipset and cost more. If you want to spend a little more, a MB with the Nvidia Nforce2 400 chipset would also be a good choice. If the Duron 1600 has a locked multiplier, then a 200MHz FSB would be 2400MHz, but you'll probably want to stay under 180 anyway. -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.html |

Would you care to post details of how you did this or a link? I've just reformatted and lost my links on this subject. I nust learn to cut'n'paste them to a text file in future :-) -- ~misfit~ |

I nust learn to cut'n'paste them to a text file in future :-) This is maybe slightly OT, but I found it quite spectacularly useful and well done: http://www.ocinside.de/html/workshop..._painting.html Also check this out (in German) http://www.exclaim.de/howtos/artikel...ecken-MOD.html I don't know any English links on this matter, I was tired of googling :-) Besides, my German is sufficient to get this read Cheers, Miguel |
