Epson Scanner 1660 photo - full page scan fail
Hello
I hope someone here can help, as I have had no joy with the the Epson Tech support. I have an Epson 1660 photo usb scanner. I have mainly used it for negatives, but during the week needed to scan an A4 page. During the preview, the light bar got to the end of the unit and then stayed there, just making a terrible clicking sound and the main green lit button started flashing red. I removed the power cable and replaced it and the light bar returned, so I tried again with the same results. I kept trying until eventually the lightbar would not return to the starting position. Even when I had removed the USB cable. After a few hours it would return! This only seems to happen if I do a full page scan. If I scan upto about 1 inch form the end of the unit, it scans fine, so just using the transparency unit this problem does not occur. I phoned the tech support, who gave me a refernce number and I went to the Repair centre. They connected the scanner to their pc and successfully scanned several pages and then sent me on my way. When I got home, I got the same fault. On both my laptop & PC Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thank you Callum |

Thank you Callum Since the tech center was successful, then the problem is your driver software on your computer(s). First Download the latest Driver for the Epson Photo 1660. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...p e=Downloads I would uninstall the Epson software. Reboot computer. Install the Downloaded Epson software. Reboot Computer. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions on installing the Scanner. Then try the full page scan again. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |

Hello
thank you for your reply. I actually managed to fix the problem - it was hardwear, not software! There is a plastic bracket on the base of the unit which had a slight ridge on it which caught the plastic protusion on the bottom of the light unit. So i filed it off (yes, invalidates the warrenty!) and all worked fine. Turned out that it only happened when the light bar went to the very end, which they did not do at the repair centre, it just missed the ridge by mm. Thank you for your help though Callum On Sun, 26 Oct 2003 21:22:12 GMT, "CSM1" wrote: "ice" wrote in message .. .
