Canon S820 Prints Blue on Glossy Paper
My Canon S820 has begun printing only blue tones when printing to
glossy photograph paper. It prints all colors on ordinary printer paper. I have never refilled my cartridges; I always buy new cartridges. I have downloaded the most recent driver from Canon's web site and installed it. I am using Canon Photo Paper Plus, but get the same blue colors on other brands of glossy paper as well. I have performed all routine maintenance on the printer including print head alignment, etc. I took the printer to a repair shop. It printed just fine on glossy paper when hooked up to their printer. Therefore, they told me the problem was with my computer and not the printer. I took a sample printout to the computer repair shop. The technician told me he could think of no reason why the computer would be at fault and said the problem is with the printer. I have had the printer for a few years and it has worked well until recently. Has anyone any ideas about what the problem could be? I don't want to buy a new printer if the problem is with the computer, but it if is with the computer, how do I fix it? |

A colour profile is the bit of software that adjusts the output to the printer for each colour. Adobe Photoshop, and most image editing software supports colour profiles. It is a complex subject, and you don't say what application you are printing from. Google for colour profiles, both spellings, color and colour. For most of us the defaults work fine, and we never get involved with profiles, but if you have turned one on, you may have to dig into the applications manuals to find where the settings are, and how to change them. You don't say if web pages print with the same colour cast? Until you have diagnosed correctly a replacement printer could possibly do the same. |

Canon S820 Prints Blue on Glossy Paper
Thanks for replying. I have printed from Adobe Photoshop CS, MS
Pubisher and MS Word, and get the same blue color on glossy paper. I just now printed this web page onto regular printer paper, and the printing was much better than on glossy, but there was still too much blue. Some of the text had a blue tone instead of pure black, for example. I have not tried printing a web page on glossy I don't understand color profiles very well. There is only one associated with my printer, and it the default. In Photoshop, the color setting seems to be set for North American General Purpose Defaults. The problem can't be Adobe, because I get the same thing from other applications. Do you mean I might have somehow changed the defrault profile associated with the printer? How can I change it back to normal? Thanks again June Could well be that you have inadvertently changed, or activated, a colour profile. Thanks again June If you go into the Control Panel - Printers & Faxes, right-click on the name of your printer, and go into Printing Preferences, you'll usually load the same printer setting dialog that you get within the program. This setting is global, and will be the template used for all programs unless you change it. Check to make sure that you don't have any of the individual color sliders changed (Some printers allow you to increase/decrease the amount of specific colors) or have it seet to 'cool tones'. You should also try running a cleaning cycle, though if it prints normally on regular paper, I doubt this is your problem. If you have created pre-saved settings for different papers, you should try changing the settings manually instead of loading any template you created. If none of this works, you should try un-installing the driver and downloading the newest driver from their website. Also, you can try changing the cable you're using. It's a rare problem, but sometimes having a very slightly damaged cable can make the printer do weird things. --- http://www.FenrirOnline.com Computer services, custom metal etching, arts, crafts, and much more. |
