Drive Image - Image File and Backup -Whats the difference?

Nope, in fact much of the manual uses the phrase 'backup images'

and others where Backing Up is appropriate ?

There isnt one.

One area of significant confusion is that you cant write
the image file to the partition or drive being imaged. So
with the most common config seen with most PCs, a
single hard drive with a single partition on it, you do
initially need to repartition the drive if you want to be
able to save the image files to a hard drive for backup.

I suspected that was the situation but I wasn't sure.
