Drive Image - Image File and Backup -Whats the difference?
wrote in message ... I have D.I. 2002 and , in the preamble it advises to Backup drives before making any significant changes . Thats mostly before doing stuff like resizing partitions etc. I've always made Image Files with this and previous versions of D.I. Is there any difference between making an Image File and Backing Up with D.I.? Nope, in fact much of the manual uses the phrase 'backup images' Are there occasions where an Image File is appropriate and others where Backing Up is appropriate ? What is the difference between these two terms ? There isnt one. One area of significant confusion is that you cant write the image file to the partition or drive being imaged. So with the most common config seen with most PCs, a single hard drive with a single partition on it, you do initially need to repartition the drive if you want to be able to save the image files to a hard drive for backup. |

Thanks for clearing that up.
I suspected that was the situation but I wasn't sure. Cheers, B.N. |
