Controlling spin-down & spin-up?
This thread was originally posted by DN ).
In the original thread, I suggested: You can try adjusting Recycle Bin properties to "Configure drives independently" and "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin" for your backup drive [partitions]. Currently I am using two hard disk drives divided into six partitions total. One of the backup hard disk drive partition drive letters was sandwiched between the main hard disk drive partition drive letters, like this. C (main HDD partition) D (backup HDD partition) E (main HDD partition) Seems that the drive would spin up whenever I deleted a file/whatever. Using Windows XP, the partition letters were changed so that all of the backup hard disk drive partitions were at the end of the letter chain, like this. C (main HDD partition) E (main HDD partition) F (backup HDD partition) Apparently that fixed the problem. Now the backup hard disk drive stays asleep after it goes to sleep, seems the only exception is when emptying the recycle bin (which is easy to do without). If you don't have shortcuts/references pointing outside of drive C, changing the letters is easy enough. -- Writing the first dynamically timed systemwide macro recorder for Windows XP. Please see (comp.windows.open-look). Coding help is needed, using VC++ 7. |
