IBM Desk Star
My hard disk has failed. It makes a strange clicking noise and is no
longer recognised by the BIOS. Does anyone have any advice about what I could do to get back the data on the drive? Thanks Pete |

Thanks Pete Well people are going to tell the freezer trick. You put it in a bag and then in the freezer for a while. The cold supposedly lets some failed HDs work loing enough to get some data off. Dont think its "fixed " though some posts claimed it did actually work a long time after that most people it seems their disk failed again very quickly. Some people try the freezer trick multiple times until it no longer works. Others include some sort of shock. Dropping it. bumping it. Obviously thats really the last resort as that could damage it even more. |

IBM Deathstar and no backup. You didn't want the data. If it's valuable send it to a data recovery center. There may be an IBM bios floating around the 'net but I don't have a link for you. Last resort is to throw it into the freezer for a couple hours inside an air-tight baggie then retry it before the drive heats up. |
