Default USB 2.0 & 1.0 Confusion?

Just wondering:

Would a USB 1.0 device still work @ 12Mbps in a USB 2.0 port.

Thanks in advance.

Yes. USB 2 will slow down accordingly.

Yes it would. But, a USB 2.0 device would NOT work in a USB 1.0 port.

I think you can have a USB 1 or 2 device plugged into a USB 1 or 2
controller. You will only get full speed with USB 2 device into USB 2
controller. As soon as one end starts talking at USB 1 speed, then both
devices switch to the slower speed. Everything should be compatible though.

Sorry.....should have added that my USB 2.0 flash drive obviously only
works at the lower speed when plugged into a USB 1.0 port. With XP you get a
message advising you of this.

Same with my Canon EOS 350d. USB2 camera. PC is USB 1 - works fine, but at
USB 1 speed (obviously).
