Default Do you have to have 2 identies? (COMCAST)

A friend of mine had a problem with a virus on her DELL computer and
after getting it going again COMCAST tech support told her that because
two different people use the PC that they had to have two seperate
identities in OUTLOOK EXPRESS... even mentioning something to the
effect of it being the law or something.

Prior to the virus, they had two seperate email accounts with OE but
they didn't have seperate identities.... and they liked it much better.
Much simpler to navigate.

Can an ISP (COMCAST) dictate what way to set up your accounts in this
manner? There's even two seperate accounts to start the PC, when there
used to be only one.

Thanks in advance

DAVID

Sounds like complete crap to me, although the way the US Gov is going
these days in an attempt to convince the public that war with an
unspecified "threat" (much of which they funded to begin with) is
necessary...

Its your PC - use it how *you* want to.

it sounds like either you were given bad information by someone that
probably didn't know what they were talking about.

outlook express does support multiple identities.
windows support multiple logons.
if you have multiple windows logons then you can have a single and separate
(and different) outlook express identity for each windows logon user.

David,
This when your friend reinstalled windows with Outlook Express, an "identity" in
the registry was created for OE.
1. Unless altered at the by the user, either when OE is first opened, or
later, the "identity in the registry will be named "Main Identity".
2. If your friend used the comcast set-up wizard software, for internet
connection, and email service, a Second "Identity" may have been created.
3. In addition, OE will create seperate identities, if you a multiple user
setup, on your PC.

Having multiple identities allows the user, some limited privacy. From other's
prying eyes if you password the identity.
1. You can have multiple email accounts and news server accts under a single
identity.
2. Or a single acct, for each multiple identity.

It seems that your friend, set up multiple usernames when reinstalling windows,
which then created multiple identities in OE. Make sure that you back up the OE
message files, just in case something goes wrong. When using OE5.01 to OE6, they
will named as xxxx.DBX files. Make sure that you also copy the "Folder.dbx"
files in your backup. These files may be hidden, you will need to first unhide
them.

To SEARCH for OE message files, GoTo:
MyComputer TOOLS Folder Options View tab Select SHow hidden files and
folders. Then GoTo:
Start Search type in box "*.DBX", (w/o Quotes (")), and backup these files,
they should be in a single folder for each identity.

If using XP, goto:
Control Panel USERS Accounts and delete the unwanted user acct. Make sure that
they do not delete the "Administrator" acct.
