Default Skybuck's Dream PC, Third Build, 100% done, or is it ? ;) (More Pictures ! ;))

Ok, Peeps,

I am very happy camper right now.

The new case is awesome, the airflow is awesome... even the sound of the
airflow at medium is awesome.

I have no words to describe the awesomeness of it lol.

Maybe later... when I am less happy... I might have some words for it...
right now I am in shock LOL.

Anyway I have noticed there is maybe one little remaining problem with my
computer:

GPU1 is running at 53 degrees celcius on idle.
GPU2 is running at 43 degrees celcius on idle.

I am not sure which gpu is which pci slot..

Bet I'll bet the hotter gpu is the top one... with the x-fi elite pro sound
blaster under it.

So I think it's a safe bet to say that the x-fi elite pro is sufficating the
7900 gtx card.

Well my original plan was to have just one card and not two... but I ordered
two because I was scared I would receive none

So to get a system that will have a long life... I might have to try and
sell one graphics card...

Maybe I will sell both and go for a single dual slot card with good
performance...

Could be nice cause then I have dx10 or maybe even dx11 support.

For now there is no rush... hopefully the air flow is enough to keep things
cool.

Another explanation might be that the cpu heatpipes is warming up gpu1...

So maybe gpu1 is causing the motherboard to fail... 53 degrees near
motherboard probably can't be good ?!?! or maybe it's just on the inside of
the gpu...

Though the other gpu is running a full 10 degrees cooler ! so that's a
pretty good sign that something is off.

So I ll have to do some more investigation later on...

I really want to keep the x-fi elite pro soundblaster... since it's awesome.

Actually I could do a simple test... and remove it from the system to see
what happens.

Yeah... and then I could give the onboard audio chip another try... but it's
probably bull**** to do that anyway... because the onboard audio chip can't
be connected to the x-fi breakout box... but maybe I don't need that
breakout box...

Yeah that's the breakout box connection.

Well if I give up my x-fi elite then I will no longer have 24 bit
crystalizer... and no superior sound performance in bf2 . I have never
tried cod4 with onboard audio though...

Though if I remember correctly... normally the gpu temperature was 60
degrees... so maybe it's already 8 degrees cooler thanks to case..

Also it's 25.5 degrees celcius room temperature right now... and still
dropping... windows open.

Well this gpu1 issue is seriously some food for thought and probably an
issue...

I haven't tried playing COD4 yet... I'll do that some other time and see
what happens.

When I fired the pc up it was 27 degrees celcius room temperature that's
when I took pictures...

Also I had a few issue's... the hd sata cables needed to be swapped for
proper boot order.

Also the bios seemed to loose it's memory/settings... I set some things to
auto and so... and once windows was shutdown it remembered it ok.

So to sum up first I was reallllll happy... but now I am still a little bit
worried about that hot gpu1 !

Here are the pictures (new ones starting at 1143):

http://members.home.nl/hbthoupperman...mPCThirdBuild/

Yeah this PC cost me a fortune ! It must survive for a long time to come
because it's just nice and has lots of stuff on the hd's !

DONT DIE ! =D I am not gonna be happy if it dies again !

If it turns out... that the x-fi is sufficating the gpu1... then this is
definetly gonna be my first and last sli setup.. yeah it's gonna be my last
and first sli setup anyway... way too expensive ! =D though performance
is kinda nice But better get one super good card.. instead of two
That's my advice for people thinking about sli... - probably don't go sli !
Proof needs to be supplied still... but I am pretty sure that sli is bad !

Bye,
Skybuck.

Well...

I just came up with a cunning plan !

I am gonna remove one graphics card !

Yeah...

I am gonna remove the top one first... to see if that was the hot one.

I am done with dieing systems !

NO MORE DIEING SYSTEM FOR ME !

Bye,
Skybuck.

hehe... all that trouble just to cool? My computer(phenom quad 9600, 8gb
ram, 2TB HD(+ external drive), 2xGPU(cheap cards since I don't do any gaming
and only need it for cad)) is sitting in about 5 gal vegtable oil that is
cool by an old refigerators compressor(which is outside).

If I leave it off for a few hrs the temp gets down to about 10C which then
rises slowly over the day to about 30C depending on what I'm doing. (CPU
usually being a few degrees hotter than overall)

Since the cooling system was n-rigged its not the best as it was mainly just
for experimental purposes.... THe MB was running pretty hot though when I
got it for some reason.

Have you read about static electricity or ESD and what you need to
protect
electronics when they are in the open... obviously not. go google ESD

Yes. I have never once found myself standing in awe of a
non-functional computer.

I did the other day.

The mains plug had come loose !

Didn't exactly take too long to figure though.

I completely agree with that...

It was awesome for the few minutes that it lasted...

Then the sadness struck...

Skybuck.

The components will just have to survive it...

I am not gonna wear gloves or do anything special, except touch the
warming/heating grid of the appertment to get rid of some electrons

If a component simply can't lay on a wooden table then it deserves to die.

Skybuck.

Doesn't that ring a bell?

Your homebuild IS dying all the time.
