Default BSOD - possibly video card related

I've been having some BSOD issues recently.

As I posted a while ago, I had a BSOD with error code 0x0000008E and a
mention of "nv4.sys"; I was advised to try out different drivers. I was
using v84.21 which had been working fine until then.

I tried the latest driversn but quickly grew frustrated with the weird video
bugs, so I went back. That was about 3 weeks ago.

Then came yesterday, when I experienced a second BSOD, this time with a
mention going "BAD_POOL_CALLER" en an error code 0x000000C2 (going from
memory here, I didn't write it down until afterward). I googled this a bit,
and this seems related to driver issues (or am I mistaken?).

So I was wondering if anyone has had similar issues. Can this be a videocard
problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so. I used to have BSODs with EA games from 2-3 years ago,
and it came from their 3d engine.

IMHO it's just a matter of bad 3d programming causing some invalid
function calling which makes your 3d driver crash.

Does your problem occur with all your 3d apps or just some of them,
always the same ones ?

Thanks for your response!

Well, I had it happen twice so far. Neither of them happened while playing
games, BTW. I should try some more games to test, I guess.

I don't remember the exact circumstances of the first error, but the second
was while viewing some video on a website (Gamespot.com, you know, they have
a lot of video content). I wanted to shut down Windows, didn't bother to
stop the video file playing, but just clicked on the "close" button to close
the browser window, and when I did that, I got the BAD_POOL_CALLER error.

I seem to recall the first error also happened while watching video of some
kind in Windows...

Is there a good way of testing the videocard, or at least the driver
integrity?

OK, the BAD_POOL_CALLER error seems to come from the *audio* driver. Do
you by chance have a Soundblaster soundcard with Nero BurningRom and
NeroMix installed together ?

Check your system with Aida32.

Well, I do have Nero 7 Premium installed; no NeroMix there though (well, not
AFAIK) and I do have a SB Audigy LS.

Thanks, I will try that out. I appreciate the help!

You know, when I recently tried the newer nvidia drivers, I tried out that
DriverCleaner - which seems to have caused more trouble than it solved. I
had to use system restore just to get my system working again.

I just tried installing v84.63, but got an error message stating it couldn't
find drivers compatible with the hardware. Sigh - I'm feeling like
reinstalling.
