Quake 4 and slow performance
"Seeker" wrote in message ... I just downloaded and installed the quake4 demo for windows. My system is an Athlon XP 2000 with 512 MB RAM and a 6600GT. When I ask the game to automatically set the video settings for my hardware it selects low quality, which has a 640x480 resolution among else. The game runs with a pretty slow performance when there are enemies on screen. Will upgrading my RAM or CPU enable me to play this game and enjoy it or should I pay an arm and a leg Try another 512 ram.I finished Doom3(same engine) with an Athlon 2000 9800pro and 1 gig ram.Ran at 800x600 medium settings.I don't remember slowdowns being a problem at all.Of course Q4 has more wide open areas and enemies but you've got a stronger gfx card. All my games play much smoother since I added 512mb.Xp uses almost 250 leaving many games starved for ram.And most games lowball the automatic settings.First thing I do with a new game is bump the settings up a tad.-Vic |
