Default Hibernate won't work on A7V8X with SATA as only hard drive

Does anyone know if hibernate in WinXP (Home Ed.) will work when the
only hard drive is a Serial ATA unit cabled to one of the SATA
connectors, and running off of the Promise onboard SATA/RAID
controller? I get a BSOD that requires a hard reset (3-finger won't
even reboot). Standby works, but all the fans are still running and I
have to manually shut down if I decide later that I'm done with the
machine. I had no problems with hibernate with my IDE hard drive, but
I've now put it in another machine.

Also, what's the best arrangement for my two optical drives, now that
there is no hard drive on either IDE channel? For better airflow, it
seems like both the DVD-ROM and CDRW on a single cable and IDE channel
makes the most sense. Would I see any benefit from making each a
master on its own IDE channel?

TIA,

Mark

Several people have been having similar issues with the IBM-Hitachi 160 GB
SATA drive and the P4C800E-Deluxe motherboard. By any chance, do you have a
Hitachi drive?

No, I've got a Maxtor 80GB.
