Difference between Intel CPUs

Which 64-bit software? Linux 64? WinXP 64? Nero?

What software do you recommend for 64-bit video encoding?

It's better for me to watch a 1hr video than to encode the video on my
XP2000, so as prices drop I'm thinking P-4 3.0 or better for the next
upgrade. 50% games, 30% video/audio, 20% other uses.

Why? Am I only allowed to buy one CPU every 6 months or something? If
6-months from now Adobe and others release 64-bit software, why can't I
upgrade again?

Why do you want a Precott cpu? They run hot. You should get a 2.8ghz
Northwood with 800mhz FSB.

Prescott is designated with an E and Northwood 800fsb with a C.

I was undecided whether or not to get Prescott or Northwood. After reading
reviews, I decided on the cooler running Northwood. I just won a 3.2C at an
auction for $175 retail box, which seems to be a pretty fair price I think.
