Default Problems with Geforce2 MX/400 in Win98

I have a GeForce2 MX/400 and I'm running Windows 98 with DirectX 9.0. I
recently installed the newer drivers from the nvidia website and I've
been totally unable to run anything with Direct3D.

The only thing that will run is Diablo 2 in DirectDraw mode.

I did a dxdiag and came up with this:

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT
= 0x80004005 (Generic failure) Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step
8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code) Direct3D 9
test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT =
0x8876086c (error code)

Diablo 2 gives me this:

05:31:26.760 imagehlp.dll loaded for better stack crawls.
05:31:26.760 Able to access user registry to delete flag
05:31:26.760 ... continuing Video Test

05:31:40.930 Missing glide3x.dll. Assuming no 3dfx boards present!

So what's up? My old driver (dated 11-18-2002) worked just fine... I had
problems originally setting up Direct3D with Diablo 2 but I fixed it
(just don't remember how). Everything else worked but Direct3D in Diablo
back then, though. Now none of the games work that require 3D support.

Can anyone help me out here? I'm at a loss as for what to do.

Thanks.

If you moved up from an older 3 series set of drivers you need the
30xxx to 40xx fix,
http://download.guru3d.com/detonator/
Or fully remove the Detonator drivers with one of their utilities and
then install and updated version. The 30.82 drivers or the 44.03
drivers work well in Win98/SE I've found.
Whilst there also get the free,"Rivatuner"
http://download.guru3d.com/rivatuner/
and use it to go through all your settings as it has a built in
hidden registry checker that can fix these kind of problems
