Default Blue screen playing games

am having a problem and I am hoping for some advice. My computer runs
fine except when I try to play games and after about 10min of game playing I
get the blue screen of death. It says about disabling system bios and
caching which are already disabled, any way the last thing it says is :

Technical information:
STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80042000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I'm starting to think that my video card may be stuffed, cause I have tried
reloading drivers, directx and the problem still persists, so if anyone has
any ideas what may be wrong I am open to suggestions.

My specs:
Amd Athlon Xp 3000+
1 GiG DDR 400 Ram
Geforce Ti4200
2 X WD 80G Harddrives
7VT600 Gigabyte mainboard
Windows Xp Professional.

The Stop 7F errors seem to be caused by RAM or hardware failures. Here's an
article on Microsoft's Knowledge Base:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;137539

Might try pulling out some of your RAM. I wonder if the error applies to
video card RAM as well? Dunno...

Might be memory, but then again the error is generic enough that it
could easily be something besides the memory itself, though it
wouldn't be the video card memory producing this. Also we have to
consider Microsoft's take on this.... of course it COULDN'T be an
operating system bug, or so they'd like us to believe.... nobody's
ever heard of bugs in windows!

Monitor the CPU temps, try running with case cover off if you suspect
overheating. Check fans for proper operation.

When you reloaded the drivers, does that simply mean retrying same
driver version(s)? If so then try a (vastly) different version... for
example if it's a 40-series driver, try 50-series, or vice-versa.

Check power supply voltages too, particularly the 3V & 5V readings.

That type of error USUALLY isn't because of a failing video card, it
would instead show visual anomalies, crashes without a kernel error,
or just no video anymore.

The easiest way to troubleshoot might be by starting out with it
underclocked... go into bios or motherboard jumpers/switches and
reduce the FSB & memory to 100MHz synchronous. If you didn't already
have the memory running synchronous to the FSB (same speed) I'd
suggest trying that too. With the underclocked settings put the
system though the same situations and see if it's stable. If it is
that should rule out operating system, driver, and game problems and
narrow it down to hardware, overheating or electrical problems.

If it isn't stable underclocked then a more careful look at the game
might help and also testing the memory (http://www.memtest86.com) for
several hours.

Here's a relevant quote from the docs"

============================
This error message can occur if either of the following conditions exists:
a.. Your computer has hardware or software problems (hardware failure is
the most common cause).

-or-
b.. You try to over clock the speed of your computer's processor (for
example, you set a 150 MhZ processor to run at 187 MhZ).
The above STOP error means a trap occurred in kernel mode and the trap is
either one the kernel is not allowed to have or is always fatal. The most
common causes of a STOP 0x7F a

a.. Low-level hardware corruption, such as corrupt memory (RAM)
b.. Mismatched memory modules
c.. A malfunctioning motherboard
To determine an approximate cause, examine the parameters at the top of the
STOP screen:
**STOP 0x0000007F (0x000000XX, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

The most important parameter is the first one (0x0000000X) which may have
several different values. The cause of this trap can vary, depending on the
value of this parameter. All traps that cause a STOP 0x7F can be found in
any Intel x86 microprocessor reference manual as they are specific to the
x86 platform. Here are some of the most common ones:
============================

The first parameter shows that you have a double fault.

============================
Double Fault
A double fault occurs when an exception occurs while trying to call the
handler for a prior exception. Normally, the two exceptions can be handled
serially, however there are several exceptions that cannot be handled
serially and in this situation the processor signals a double fault. The two
primary causes for this are hardware and kernel stack overflows. Hardware
problems are usually related to CPU, RAM, or bus. Kernel stack overflows are
almost always caused by faulty kernel-mode drivers.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method:
a.. If either software or hardware can cause a particular trap, a debug is
required to determine which is the cause. If you suspect a hardware problem,
try the following hardware troubleshooting steps:
1.. Run diagnostic software and test the RAM in the computer. Replace
any RAM reported as bad. Also, make sure all the RAM in the computer is the
same speed.
2.. Try removing or swapping out controllers, cards, or other
peripherals.
3.. Try a different motherboard on the computer.
b.. If you are over clocking the speed of your processor, set it back to
the speed at which it is designed to run.
c.. Check with the hardware vendor for any updated hardware drivers or
BIOS updates, or both.

Do you have the BIOS set to cache video BIOS or RAM? if so turn off those
options too.

Default Blue screen playing games

I have the same problem with the same error message. I recently bought
and installed an MSI 975X Platinum motherboard. Everything seemed to
work fine EXCEPT when I played games, like Doom and 1-10 minutes into
the game I got the blue screen. This also happens when I play videos,
DVDs' online or with a disk. Oddly it also started to happen when I
used Skype during computer to computer calls.

I contacted MWAVE where I purchased all the parts for the computer.
They told me I should start looking at either the memory or video
card. So I bought another video card, same problem. I also bought
better memory and it still happens so im lost. Can it be the
motherboard?

So you're NOT alone, there are others having this same problem.

Seems like a driver or application problem, the primary
suspects being video or sound drivers, or Skype. Since the
problem seems to have started with introduction of Skype,

He didnt say that. His use of the word ALSO is significant.

the first step in troubleshooting is to seek fixes for Skype
or at least completely purge it from your system then check
whether the problem went away. If it is running in the
background continually, first try just closing it.

Could be heat related. Games and video can be quite demanding on a system,
so perhaps the processor or graphics chips are getting too hot. Open the
case and clean the heatsinks everywhere and try the task with the side off
the case - see if it helps. If its OK, then you've found your problem.
