Upgrade from Gf3-Ti200

Looking at either a MSI FX5600-VTDR128 (CAN$237) or MSI FX5600-TDR256
(CAN $267).
The only differences I see are that the VTDR has VIVO capabilities with
the fancy remote control which don't excite me as I have another PC for
playing movies on the TV.
Any other pro\cons between either card? I was leaning towards the
5600-TDR256 to get more RAM on the card.
Running an AMD 2400+ and using it for games like HL2 which is out soon.

Any thoughts?

The 5600 is definitely an upgrade. But I'd recommend going for
something without any frills and just find the biggest badass you can.
256 definitely. Also take a close look at the default core/mem clocks
and see if you can find a "pre-tweaked" card (if possible).

Having 256MB ram only helps if you use very high resolutions;
1600x1200 or higher, while gaming. 128MB and 256MB are identical in most
games I've seen running at 1024x768.

There are some reviews on www.tomshardware.com that detail the differences
between 128 and 256.

if u are even considering play HL2 then forget either 5600 series or the
9600 series. just get a 9800 non pro or a 9700 pro if u can find a cheap
deal. i have always found its easier to overclock atis than nvidias. u might
have a different opinion. also the 9800 non pro is easily overclockable to
the pro speeds if u up the agp voltage a lil bit on the bios . better yet is
flashing it with a 9800 pro bios which makes it even better. it sets the
speeds to a stock 9800 pro card and then o/c is even more tempting. but for
the new directx 9 games coming out stick to the highest series as the middle
and lower ones will perish without much ado.

ATI cards available are over $500 taxes in so that's way out of range.
The 9800 Pro Retail is lowest at $499 (plus 15% tax)
9700 Pro 128Mb is $527 and 9800 Pro Retail 128Mb is $577

I see a MSI Ti4600-VTD for $417??? Doesn't that sound way out. Would
that be that much better than a FX5600?
I know the 5200's are crap but the 5600 is up there isn't it?

Save your $30 and get the VTDR128.

Is the FX5600 video cards generally ****e over all or a worthy upgrade?
I thought I saw people saying that if it wasn't an 'Ultra' then don't
bother. But the local supplier doesn't seem to have any 'Ultra' type
cards.
Is there really a big diifference?

boughtr a fx 5600 ultra best buy
took it home played with it didnt like my 3d score of 6600~ on 3dmark 2001se
brought it back
bought 9600 pro (ati)
3dmark 7406~
played my games Americas army sof2 and bf 1942
artifacts looked like crap compared to fx5600 ultra
brought it back
rebought my fx 5600 ultra AND got the open box discount
so yaDA yada yada
ill take quality over frame rates and synthetic benchmarks
got like 70 fps with 9600 pro AA
get like 60 fps with fx @ 1024x768 high details
but the fx looks way better my system

60 gig ata 100
sparkle fsp550-60plg 550w eps power supply=NEW
i bought this power supply for 37 bucks brand new
and for the fx card you better have more than 350 watts

Been changing my mind again and am now wondering about the comparison of
a FX5600 versus an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro?
MSI FX5600 256Mb = $267
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro = $277

Read that the 9600 Pro is actually not as fast as the older 9500 Pro but
how faster than the FX5600 (non Ultra)

According to Tom's Hardware is slower than even the GF4 Ti-4200\9500
