Optorite DVD+-RW Drive
The message
from "Chip" contains these words: "Pug Fugley" wrote in message snip new...$132 this week at Newegg. Plus the Pioneer is 100 times better. Better as in Pioneer16x CD write vs 24x CD write on the Optorite? Hmmm much better. or Pioneer x8 DVD read vs Optorite x12 DVD read. I just love slow DVD reads, don't you? "Better" peformance like that, I can do without. Chip. Actually, I think he meant 'better performance' in that the Pioneer handles different makes of media (particularly cheaper media) far better than *any* other make of drive. Which at the end of the day makes it a better dvd writer, given that the reason for owning a dvd writer is to write dvds. Also,it isn't very difficult to get a Pioneer 106/A06 to rip/read dvds at 12X if you know how to go about it. -- Whiner, 'Bites you when you're not looking' |

Mainly Verbatim, but also other brands including That's, Memorex and a few others. And I have a 100% success rate. All formats, all media, no problems whatsover. So, pray tell me, how would I find the mighty Pioneer "so much better" than that? The only thing I would notice is that it was slower and more expensive. Chip. |

Well, according to Optorite support, the drive does not support the
media I am using. However, they expect to release a new firmware update next week that supports my media. Given that I've still got over 250 blank DVD-R's, I'll return the drive before I get 50 cents of the dollar selling the DVD blanks. I went ahead and picked up the Pioneer 106 which arrived yesterday, so in the meantime I'll give it a try. I've still got two weeks to return the Optorite to Best Buy, so that will give me a chance to evaluate the two side-by-side. And if the firmware update doesn't fix my problem, I can keep the Pioneer. |
