Default Will commercial mobos fit hew-pkd. computers?

Could an Asus or Abit (or other name) mobo be used to replace a
defective factory mobo in a HP Vectra XE310 (Microtower) Model: P5880B?
What info would one need from the hp-mobo in order to check for replacement?
It uses a 950 mhz celeron. Trying to decide whether to buy a cheap hp comp.
Should this be an incorrect forum, what forum would be appropriate to
post to? TIA, s

For one thing you need the size of the mb that you want to replace.
Sometimes companies such as Compaq, HP, Dell and others make propriatory
sizes and standard generic mbs simply will not fit their box dimensions or
even if they do will not line up with the card slots. Additionally, you have
to make sure that the PS that the HP is using is standard and using standard
connectors that will be able to be used with the new mb you're going to put
into the box.

Also chances are your restore disk can't be used with a non-HP
replacement motherboard.-Vic
