Aspire 1711SCi DVD/CR-RW problems?
This has got to be something simple...
It seems that everytime after CDROM stops spinning, it will need to be first restarted until the system (XP Pro) can process any further user actions (such as clicking a link on a web page or copying/pasteing text etc.). This causes irritating 1-3 second delays in computer operation. Is there any way to make the CDROM not being restarted all the time until it is actually needed? Thanks in advance. |

After looking more carefully it might not be the CD. Some other
component (mayby HDD?) is going to power saving state even though all components are set to go Never on power saving state in the XP Power Options. Is there some BIOS override to XP settings? 1711SCi default BIOS version does not seem to contain power management settings. Are they hidden to certain default settings and could this be the problem? |

Got new BIOS from Acer. WinPhlashed it and everything seems to work
fine now. The file name I received is DT33A19.WPH (or DT33A19.zip). It is also available in Acer Europe FTP server (different file name, still most likely the same). |
