Default PNY technologies Geforce fx 5200 pci help needed

I own a dell dimension 2400, the motherboard is based around the intel
845gv chipset and up till now I had been running the integrated
graphics controller the 82845gv graphics controller.
I assumed that installing a new graphics card would not be difficult
however....
I disabled the onboard graphics through device manager and switched
the cable to the nvidia board. the system booted up fine, the xp
loading screen came up fine but as soon as the logon screen should
have come up the flatscreen monitor goes into power saving mode. This
happens every time I boot.
The nvidia card works fine if I either boot to safe mode or choose the
vga enable mode.
I have obtained the latest drivers for both the nvidia and the
monitor, no joy.
as soon a I remove the nvidia card the on board graphics work fine.

Help please I am completely at a loss ... and I need to play knoghts
of the old republic.

dell diminsion 2400 intel 845 chipset

Try disabling the on-board video in the system bios setup. You can normally
get into bios setup by hitting a certain key while the system is booting.
The boot up screen should indicate what key to hit.

Agreed!!

(I dont have the original post)

BIOS setting to disable onboard video... but DELL may NOT have that
option... I worked on a Dell 2400 (POS) and added a PCI card some time
ago... Had to Tell Windows which was the MAIN screen.
