Com2 is usually used for modem. Internal modem requires disabling

COM2
in
BIOS.

Hey my modem uses COM3 and it works fine. And I thought IRQ7 was the
mouse?

I always thought IRQ7 was for LPT1, usually the Printer.

It is IRQ7, but an internal modem doesn't "normally" require disabling
the motherboard's COMM port.. doing so should work too, but an ISA or
PCI hardware or winmodem is supposed to work fine on another comm
port, and more often than not, they do use some other comm port, since
almost all motherboards default to having the onboard comm port
enabled.

Dave you are probably correct, BUT I WANT my PC's to use COM2 for my
internal WinModems so I "disable" COM2 in the BIOS .

It works for me. To each his/her own preference is my motto. whatever suits
you.
