Default HELP: Can't find the drivers for cd-rw and DVD-rom drive?

Hello,
I can't seem to find the cd-rw driver for the model "GCE-8400B" by LG
Electronics eventhough i went to their website. Also, i can't find the
driver for a LITE-ON DVD-rom model "LTD-163" on their site. Anyone
know other places i can find the drivers for these 2 drives? Thanks.

Win 2K had the drivers needed for my Lite-on LTD-163D DVD drive.
Nothing special about them, they're typical CD drivers, same goes for
the RW drive, it's a regular CD drive until you install and use
burning software (unless in XP). Both of mine use cdrom.sys,
redbook.sys and storprop.dll. Only difference is that the model
number is picked up and displayed for the device...

These drives do not use "drivers" under any version of Windows since
Windows 95. They should be recognized by both the bios and Windows upon
installation of the drive, and on boot up. If they are not recognized by
either, then they have been installed wrong. The only time you need
"drivers" is to use the drives under DOS, which then you would load
command line instructions directing DOS to real mode drivers in
autoexec.bat and config.sys. This allows operation of the drive in DOS.
Usually these are generic atapi drivers, and most manufacturer's
websites do not mention them or offer them. You may have to do a search
for "CDROM DOS driver" or "DVD-ROM DOS driver" under Yahoo or Google, or
maybe someone here knows where you can get them if you need them. You
then need to edit your config.sys and autoexec.bat files to point to the
drivers.

could you be meaning that your DVD does not show up after a reboot? I
bought a Sony dvd player for my computer that would not show up in
WinXP on a dual boot computer but would show up everytime if I booted
into Win98SE. I found if I left a disk in the drive, either a cdr or a
DVD, then WinXP would find the drive on bootup. It was a pain. I tired
using a dvd fix file I found that was suppose to fix WinXP but it made
no difference. I got rid of the Sony drive and got a Liteon it WinXP
finds it on every boot.

It is faily well documented on MS web site that Windows XP can lose
cdrw and dvd drives.

You do not need drivers..

The Burning software has the drivers built in..
